6 Ways to Ease Your Digestion This Holiday Season | Frani Pisano

With all of the yummy dishes, snacks, and desserts around to tempt us this holiday season, including Thanksgiving this month, it can be easy to overindulge. Eating a bit too much can feel great in the moment as we enjoy our food and drinks, but it doesn’t feel so great a few hours later, right? Fortunately, there are some ways you can help ease your digestion so your stomach isn’t talking back to you so much. Here are a few ways to help your digestion after eating too much during the holidays.

1. Take a walk. A virtual show of hands: How many of you like to eat a big meal and then go lay down and take a nap or binge watch a favorite show? Laying down doesn’t allow your body to keep what you’ve eaten moving efficiently through your system. By contrast, walking after a meal can help your digestion to keep things moving. That walk also provides physical activity and helps to lower your blood sugar.

2. Use dōTERRA’s DigestZen essential oil. As you can guess by its name, DigestZen is especially designed for digestive-related issues. It’s infused with Ginger, Fennel, Coriander, Tarragon, Anise, Caraway, and Peppermint essential oils that are combined to help ease occasional stomach discomfort, maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract, and aid in digestion. If you’re stomach feels a little upset, put a drop into a 4-ounce glass of liquid (because it’s so concentrated, you really only need one drop). You also can rub a drop on your stomach to help with bloating or gas.

3. Drink some herbal tea. The right herbal teas can be both calming to the body and mind. There are specific herbal teas that can help with digestion, including peppermint, chamomile, fennel, and fenugreek.

4. Make sure you’re drinking enough water. In your quest for holiday food enjoyment, did you forget to drink enough water? It definitely can happen. However, water plays an important role in helping to keep things moving in your digestive tract. Drinking enough water also can aid in preventing constipation.

5. Plan in advance where you want to indulge. If you’re looking for some preventive moves to help with digestion, think ahead of time about your holiday meal game plan. For instance, do you love Aunt Sallie’s pecan pie? Then load up on more greens and veggies during your main meal so you can make room for that slice or two. This is a better strategy than eating too much of everything offered.

6. Consider a probiotic/prebiotic supplement. Probiotics and prebiotics encourage friendly bacteria growth in our gut. dōTERRA’s PB Assist+ is a proprietary formula of prebiotic fiber and six strains of probiotic microorganisms in a unique double-layer vegetable capsule. The time-release, double-capsule delivery system is designed to help protect the sensitive probiotic cultures from stomach acid. PB Assist+ offers a unique, safe, and effective way to deliver the well-recognized digestive and immune system support benefits of probiotics.
