Seasonal Threats Are Upon Us! Are You Ready to Battle the Pollen Brigade? | Frani Pisano

Seasonal environmental threats are no fun. From dust to pollen to ragweed, many people are sensitive to at least one if not multiple threats that cause sneezing, coughing, a runny nose, and itchy eyes. Allergic rhinitis, which is often linked to seasonal threats, occurs in 10% to 30% of the global population, according to the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology.

So, what can you do to help prevent and manage seasonal environmental threats? Here are a few suggestions.

  • Keep windows and doors closed when seasonal environmental threats will be at their worst. You can use online trackers (often available on various weather apps) to see what threats will be worst in your area on a given day. They’re usually worse on a windy day and lowest on a rainy day.
  • Change your clothes and wash your hair. If you spend time outside, you’ll get exposed to various seasonal threats. Then you’ll come inside and still might have those items (such as pollen) on your skin and hair. As much as you can, change your clothes, take a shower, and wash your hair once inside.
  • Monitor what you eat. Believe it or not, this doesn’t have to do with food allergies. There are certain foods that can make your seasonal threats worse. If you are sensitive to ragweed and pollen, consider avoiding melon, banana, cucumber, sunflower seeds, and chamomile, advises an article from WebMD. At the very least, track if you develop stuffiness, a runny nose, or a sore throat after eating those foods.
  • Let essential oils help. Blend two drops each of Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint essential oils from dōTERRA in 1 teaspoon of Fractionated Coconut Oil. Apply this mix on your temples, under the nose, and on the bottoms of your feet in the morning and evening when dealing with seasonal environmental threats.
  • Keep your nasal passages irrigated. Use saline spray a few times a day to help keep your nasal passages moist and prevent inflammation of the mucous membranes.
  • Let Peppermint oil work its wonders. Apply one drop to the bottom of the neck twice daily.
  • Tri TriEase Softgels. These softgels combine three oils—Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint–that help the body respond to environmental threats.
